The Islands are Calling

The Islands are Calling is a creative production by the Pacific Islands Students Fighting Climate Change. It is a song that seeks to raise the voice of the youth calling for action against the climate crisis while showing the wonders of Pacific life, heritage, art, nature, culture and tradition which are all sadly under threat by the climate crisis.

Dedicated to the Past, Present and Future Generations

And to those who have bravely fought for The Illegality of the Threat or Use of Nuclear Weapons (1996) Advisory Opinion

 The Islands are Calling Locations

Malaita Province

Our first location of the Climate Change Music Video was shot in Talakali Village, along the Langa Langa Lagoon, Malaita Province. As you take a boat ride along the lagoon, you will notice large ship structures on the edge of the islands awaiting completion or some under repair because this place is well known for its skilled boat builders over the past years. Another special feature about this place is the history of man-made artificial islands built over the years here but now due to the adverse impacts of climate change, these people are forced to migrate to the mainland because their islands are sinking.

 Western Province

Our second location was on the island of Telina situated in the Marovo lagoon. This place holds great importance because of its richness in biodiversity and marine life making it a spectacular tourist destination. But due to climate change, this richness and abundance of marine life is dying, affecting the livelihoods of people of the Western Province. One special scene that was shot here showcases the youthful warrior dancer’s resilience towards this catastrophic climate event.

 Unity Square, Guadalcanal Province

Another location of scenes showcased was the peaceful demonstration we held at Unity Square situated along Commonwealth Street in Honiara. This magnificent monument showcases the diversity and unity of Solomon Islanders. Climate Change does not just affect one single individual but everyone on this planet. The youth showcased in this scene are united and support the fight against Climate Change - in unison with the theme of this location.

 Central Province

Our final location shoot was on Nagatano Island at the far end of Central Province close to Ysabel Province. The significance behind this location showcases how these small islands are the ones suffering the most from the impacts of Climate Change. Although rising sea-levels and severe tropical cyclones continue to affect them, this community has shown great resilience through strong adaptation and mitigation strategies in the fight against climate change.
